Guide to Marrying Abroad

Congrats! You have made the big decision and decide that the best thing to do is to find a great destination and marry.

What are some of the areas which you need to take note? Most wedding guides will tell you to look out for areas such as the weather, the timing of the event, the decorations, receptions, etc. But what really matters is the initial planning which is, to settle on a destination which both of you like.

Both of you might want to pen down some initial ideas on the areas you need to work on:

Which destinations both of you wish to go?

Look through bridal guides or online forums. The usual favorite destinations are Hawaii, Caribbean, Europe, etc. Your choice of the destination would affect the theme of your wedding.

To come to a decision, write down your likes and dislikes. Perhaps you hate long haul travel and thus might want to go to some places nearer to your home country.

Or you wish to get married in some exotic countries and thus you might find the Caribbean enticing.

Think about the theme of your wedding.

Having a theme makes the preparation much easier. Preparations for a beach wedding theme and for a Victorian wedding theme are comparatively different. Decide on which theme suits both of you before proceeding.

Budget

Setting your budget right from the beginning would save a lot of pain later. You can track your expenses in an Excel spreadsheet so that you know that both of you do not burst your budget.

The spreadsheet can also be a reference to you on your progress. Add in the timeline so that you know that you are on track.

Once you have done the initial few difficult steps, you should be well prepared to proceed with step two, which is the in depth planning for your wedding.
