What People Today Think About The "Marriage Crunch"

With more and more people marrying later in life, it seems that people today think the original Marriage Crunch prediction was incorrectly made. In fact, those who were born in the Baby Boomer era, are more than 90% likely to remarry or marry after the age of 30. Many of these marriages occur after divorces.

The younger generations that were too young to fully understand the Marriage Crunch article when it first came out in the 80s still find it a bit alarming. In fact, many young women nearing thirty would likely get a little nervous reading the original text. However, it should be stated that women and men both are choosing to marry later in life. People are dating longer and many are choosing to finish their education before marrying and starting a family.

Of course, those in younger generations likely wouldnt even know what the Marriage Crunch was, unless they were told in a class or by family members as they grew older. It is simply not as big of a deal now as it may have been then. Women are often choosing single life over marriage, even when they have the choice. Even unmarried women are choosing to become mothers without even thinking twice about needing a partner for parenting.

So, it could be stated that people today could care less about the Marriage Crunch and likely find it ridiculous. In fact, even if they did buy into the facts from the original article, they might not even care. After all, many young people think marriage is no longer a necessity.

As much as they say the marriage crunch is over, it still exists in Asian-American societies, see our marriage crunch research.

In fact, the more unique their stories are, the more publicity the media will get. Therefore, there is little doubt that the editors ever thought about shelving the Marriage Crunch. However, they likely didnt realize the implications of publishing it either. Of course, magazines and newspapers ra...

Predicting The Next "Marriage Crunch"
Although experts agree that todays women have a good chance of marrying after the age of 30 or even after the age of 40, there is nothing that says things cant change. The truth is that marriage statistics as well as birth trends do change over time. While some experts can try to predict the trends, there is nothing that ...

Focus On Career, Not Marriage: "Marriage Crunch"
During the 80s, women started getting more equal treatment than ever in the workplace. More women were graduating from college and getting great full time jobs. This is part of what the original Marriage Crunch was all about. Women choosing not to get married and experts worrying that be...
